Autopilot is a reflection on and critique of automation within our modern society. Focusing on the Contemporary Sublime, a technique developed by Andreas Gursky in which a post-modern exploration on the societal hive mind approach to living is examined, Simon extends his analysis to encompass Artificial Intelligence and the crucial influence it plays on human development.
Autopilot will include painted work and sculpture, where the impetus for Simon's creative process encompasses manualist approaches to art making. Here, as artist, he is able to posit the dichotomy between the real world and the virtual or automatic, where motifs such as graphical brush strokes and textures represent a found harmony within spontaneous composition.
