He believes that colours affect the feeling and moods of those who look at them. With years of experience, Simon realised that mural abstracts in public places benefit each viewer in different ways, creating curiosity, mind-opening, and imagination. He also researched and compared how people pursue an abstract painting from a figurative mural in the long term, and results showed that abstract murals were better pursued in the long term due to non-figurative results. This is why Simon believes that abstract murals should be more considered in public spaces, especially in a place like this. Abstract murals are inspiring and engaging. Different details can be discovered after a few days of walking past it. The internet has made us passive, algorithms have rendered our behaviour see-through. Personal information is collected online as a method to predict our future behaviour. We are surrounded by and encounter many of our daily experiences through screens and virtual displays. Simon’s combination of abstract painting, digital imagery, and assemblage act as a record of the unseen interactions we have with our digital interfaces.These works hold a mirror to our tumultuous relationship with this new digital phenomena; being at once, beautiful, complicated, transparent, and multifaceted. In 2000 he discovered the graffiti movement and moved to Paris to immerse himself in the heart of the French urban art scene. He now lives and works in Melbourne, creating murals and paintings. Simon’s work has evolved from the street onto the canvas with a gestural and abstract aesthetic, exploring the essence of city life, the urban environment, and its impact on society. His practice is deeply tied to time — both the fleeting nature of marks left in public space and the restrictions of time he places on himself in the studio. These self-imposed limits create a sense of urgency and physical intensity, forcing immediate decisions and raw, gestural responses. Inspired by overlooked details and layers in the urban landscape — what others might dismiss as mistakes — Simon captures and translates these ephemeral signs of life into paintings, collages, and assemblages. They become the foundation of emotion and energy in his work, offering an abstract record of movement, tension, and presence. Simon has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions, publications, and street art festivals worldwide. Since his first solo exhibition in Melbourne in 2015, he has dedicated most of his time to studio practice, honing his aesthetic and exploring the conceptual basis of his work. Alongside his own practice, Simon is passionate about fostering self-expression in others. Through workshops, collaborations, and mentorship, he continues to expand his artistic path while inspiring the creative journeys of others.
